Why I Joined

I did'nt really join, I just got.... sort of.. assimilated! I went along hoping to find some different books to read and found a lovely group of people that took me as I was, no questions, just me....as well as the books!

Since joining Talkbook I have read books I would never have dreamed of reading, and made new friends.

"There is only one reading group,

That the people who are there.

So patient and true.

No other reading group,

Will be as true to you."

At first I would only read certain books, I was starting to get bored with reading, so I decided to take myself out there and look for a reading group that would suit me.

I was not a good reader, or interested in books of any kind, until I joined a reading group called Gosport Talkbook Reading Group.

Firstly they gave me ideas about the many other writers and poets that are out there. Secondly it gave me a reason to go out and meet up with people who like reading, talking about books and having a good laugh. I found good company, with people who have now become very good friends.

We don’t put pressure on each other, so if you’re not feeling too good you can come and listen to the others say what they thought about the book we have just read. Its good fun and its friendly. If your reading this why don’t you come and try us out. We meet at the Gosport Discovery Centre every third Saturday of the month, which is opposite Gosport Town Hall.

I joined TalkBook because I was new to Gosport and wanted to link up with the LGBT community. This one suited me, because I like reading.

The group gave all that and more: I came across, and read with pleasure, books I'd never have picked out myself; I met people who have since become real friends; and I found that, when you first walk into a room full of people you don't know, it helps to have something outside of yourself to talk about - a book you've all read, and can discuss or argue about. It takes the pressure off.
